I don’t think I could have asked for a better day for our final day for CI in New Orleans. I rode shotgun this morning as we headed out to drop off people at teh various CI sites today. I, as usual was the last stop at City Park. I’d just like to add that Kaylee, our team leader has done a fantastic job of keeping us organized and on time over the past 3 days. We arrived to the park just following the release of 7 Swans into the ponds there as all but one did not survive the hurricane. Myself and a few others volunteered for a special assignment today. We started by unloading a new shipment of plants to the “Storyland” part of the park that includes recreations of characters and scenes from story books. After that we did some watering and pressure washing. I also did some leaf blowing. This was followed by picking up trash bags from around the north part of the park that were piled along side the side of the road by volunteers throughout the week. We filled an entire industrial sized dumpster. For lunch we had Pappa Johns pizza and I must say it was good. For the rest of the day myself and Karin were in the gardens weeding. Their method was interesting, placing cardboard on the ground and then dumping leaves onto it to hide the weeds. After we were done it did look much better though. Andrew and I skipped the wrap up meeting in order to make it to the football game. Our host family got took us to see some Arena football. On the way to the game I had my first Daiquiri, Starbucks coffee flavored. The rules are basically the same but the field is about half the size so there is far more action. The New Orleans arena team is the Voodoo’s and the NFL Team is the Saints. On the way back from the game I learned first hand what a Chinese Fire Drill (or Chinese Red Light) was. Its when you hit a red light and everyone jumps out of the vehicle and runs around it to a different seat. It was an interesting experience to say the least; just like nearly every experience in UWP. Its all Good™
