Saturday was a somewhat relaxed kind of day, I was up early for breakfast with my host family; nutella on bread and coffee, pretty much the perfect breakfast. My host brother and I took a “taxi” in to the school facility where I was to be for the day. What I didn’t know was that “taxi” actually referred to a truck with a cap on it with some bench seats in it. Of course, being morning rush hour, it was full so I found myself hanging off the back of the truck with 3 other Thai guys as we whizzed through morning downtown traffic. I thought to myself, in Canada, this sort of things would be illegal; here, you pay for it. It was fun though. We spent the morning at the facility preparing for our CI projects for the next week. I was appointed the crew leader for my group who is going to teach English at the “Child Development Center” in Chang Mai. After our lunch of sandwiches, we had a guest speaker on the topic of AIDS in Thailand followed by some very intense aerobics by a local instructor; I got so lost, it must have been funny to watch me although I’m sure I wasn’t the only one. Going back with my host family for supper, we went to the house of their daughter and son in law out in the mango orchard for a supper of “Dom Ka Kai” which is basically boiled chicken on rice in a coconut milk sauce. It was all good as the sun set over the mountain, lightning flashed in the distance, and crickets filled the moist night air with their cacophony of noise. They offered me to come and stay with them again sometime.
Back at their house, I played my violin for them, they even recognized the Irish song from the movie “titanic” and the Tennessee Waltz. As a present, they gave me a Thai instrument similar to the violin, a “Sala” with only two strings.
Pictures to come... My host family has no internet this week so I'm using the internet at another family members house. But its going well, at the latest I'll have new posts up next week when we're back in Bangkok, for now, Its all Good
