Friday was a crazy day to say the least. In the morning, the host drop off was at a shell gas station. We loaded the bus and headed two hours out of town to a deer farm owned by Karin’s (my ERC (external relations coordinator) during my advanced work in Utrecht) parents. We arrived to a big bbq of deer sausages. We were broken into 5 teams, it was done so none of our working styles matched. It was pretty rough going at first, but we eventualy got it together. Our first task was to row across a lake and gather some orange balls in a net, then make it back in the shortest time possible. Patrick and I decided to row. At the time, we had been the fastest group by over a minute, later we were beat by a mater of seconds by another group. Among some of the other activities I got to try were, target practice using a rifle with a scope, using a blow gun, and some trap shooting using a 12 gauge shotgun. All in all, it was a pretty cool day, but probably one of the most homesick ones I’ve had thus far. In the evening, everyone and their host families had a big picnic down to the big city park.

Chris, Wouter, Aoife and Madoke break it down.

Oh Deer!
