Yesterday was another really early start, being at the train station at 6:50 am. From there I met my CI group and again headed to the high school by train. We were told that there were going to be less students today because most of the girls would be away doing some sort of job shadowing where they could do jobs traditionally held mostly by men. Anyhow, we thought we could come with less people, but there were still the same amount of classes. I ended up working with grade 10 students. I was surprised how cooperative they all were in participating in our activities. We played some games, did some ice breakers, and had some discussions. It was all good. We wrapped up around 1 in the afternoon and went to have lunch in their cafeteria. Noodles and rice with some kinds of sauces. I sat with the philosophy teacher and the principal of the school and we discussed the different approaches to education around the world. In Europe, there seems to be 3 different schools that you can attend, some countries, you choose at grade 4, some at grade 1o. You can either go to “vocational school”, regular school, or an advanced school. I took the bus tram and train home where we had some amazing pancakes for supper. They were not as thin as crepes but not as thick as pancakes. I put nutella all over them, folded them in half, then topped them with fruit in a cherry sauce and then some vanilla pudding. It was like the whole meal was dessert. Afterwards I showed them my slideshow of pictures from back in Canada and played them some Newfoundland folk music.
