The Continuing

Today was an awesome day! We continued our work at City Park and got a whole lot done. It was our last day to work along side the university students on spring break. We were responsible for clearing all of the vines off of a fence that faces one of the major thoroughfares in the park. I never knew so many vies could grow on a single fence. After lunch, Angelo and I went and moved several loads of lumber for the maintenance crew. Everyone else got really worried about where Angelo was because we didn’t tell anyone else where we were going. Nobody even noticed I was gone. Ah well, I don’t really care because I still got lots of work done. After our wrap up back at the high school, we learned that world famous Grammy award soul singer Irma Thomas is performing with us in our show. When I told my host mom when I got back she could hardly believe it. We had red beans and rice for supper. (just like in “Baby got Back”). We dropped off Renn at his aunts house and Andrew, myself and my host parents went and joined up with some other students and went downtown. We first went to a bar called “Pat O’Brian’s” that had within it a piano bar and an outside garden among other things. It was really a true New Orleans experience. The drink that a lot of people seemed to be trying was called the “hurricane”; weather this has anything to do with Katrina or not I don’t know. Just goes to show you the spirit of the people here for not changing it. We then walked down to the famous “Bourbon Street” and went to a very popular bar called “The Cats Meow” that was touted as the karaoke place in town. Some of our cast members, mainly Kelly and Leo were brave enough to sign up and go onstage. It was awesome. Despite my age I didn’t have any problems with getting into any of the places. That probably had to do with the facial hair that I’ve let go for the past 2 weeks. Hey, it keeps my face from getting sunburned. Its all Good. We didn’t get home until well after 1AM so that was going to make Friday a very long day but it was all good.
