Today was yet another CI day, but a great one. I think I’m definitely getting the hang of this CI Crew Leader position. In the morning on the way to my school, my host mom and I stopped at her school to have a look around, its actually quite a nice school, also a public elementary school. At My CI site I volunteered to go with our contact, Billy, and teach english at his school about 10 minutes away. But first, my technical skills were again put to use as we did some final work on the brochure from earlier before it was to get printed. Wouter, Linn, Lauran and I taught english to a class of 12 eager Thai students who were just learning english. They learned what we taught quite fast so at the end, we gave them a quiz so their teacher could evaluate who needed further special attention. The kids all sang for us and gave us flowers and hugged and high fived us as we left. Doing work like this makes me think that someday I should come and teach in a foreign country where teachers are greatly needed. In the afternoon, the whole group worked on a project, painting some brick walls around the school; it looked so much better afterwards.

In the afternoon, I took a big step outside my comfort zone and had a traditional Thai massage. Greg, his host brother, my host brother, as well as my host mom and dad also came along to the little shop just a 5 minute walk from their house. I put on the special pants they gave me and had a fully body massage (which no, wasn’t actually the whole body). Afterwards I felt like I had been in a bicycle accident minus the bruises. On the plus side, I think I’ve gained a whole new range of flexibility. Supper was back with my host family, some of the best fried chicken I think i’ve ever had. Following this, Greg, myself, and our host brothers went to the large airport mall (which isn’t anywhere close to the airport) to see the movie Shrek 3. We had about an hour wait so we went to an interesting place that is best described as a personal karaoke bar. You go and order something to drink and are taken to a private room with a few couches and a karaoke system and a big screen tv and you sing karaoke. We did this for about half an hour, definitely an experience. Shrek 3 was a good movie, but I don’t think it comes close to the first two. Sure there were funny parts, but not as many and not as clever.
