You know those mornings when you wake up and say “Man... It feels like I’ve been hit by a truck?” Well, today was one of those days; and rightly so. I slept so soundly that my host mom thought I was dead and so came in and checked on me before heading out to a meeting. Later on, for breakfast she fixed me the best bowl of oatmeal I think I’ve ever had in my life. It was made with hot milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, chopped pecans, and some vanilla extract. In the afternoon I made my way down to their hot tub and that helped a lot with my aches and pains. I’ve come to learn that they own 3 Ben & Jerry’s Ice (http://benjerry.com/)cream shops around town. My host mom’s background includes being a professional dancer as well as a psychotherapist and a businesswoman. One of her current pursuits is opening up an Alzheimers clinic starting with groundbreaking sometime next year. My host dad’s pursuits are equally as varied. He used to be a professional artist; a painter. He taught high school as well as college and now works in the construction business. When he and their 11 year old son came home from the science fair at his school, they took me out for supper to a place close by called “Noshville”; a New York style restaurant that had a pretty great selection on their menu. I knew what I was having from the moment I saw its name. I had a Ruben sandwich on sourdough bread and man did it ever hit the spot. Afterwards we went to one of their B&J locations for some ice cream for dessert. Waiting in line we talked about how the franchise as a whole has many forward thinking policies. For example, all coffee products served are fair trade certified (that includes their coffee ice cream). They have many community centered activities such as volunteer days when the whole team goes and does for example a Habitat for humanity project and days once a year where they give away free ice cream to the community, and even still days where every scoop sold goes toward local charities. I’m still not feeling 100% and I have to take muscle relaxants so I can sleep and I still have a very hard time concentrating. One term that I do remember the physician that examined me mentioning is “Post-concussion syndrome:” though which despite its name does not necessairily result from a concussion. “http://www.medical-journals.com/r03109c.htm” I most likely won’t be in on Wednesday but I’ve got my eyes set on Thursday. Its all Good™
